Plants are a good addition to your home or garden as they add life to a sterile office, give privacy, and reduce noise levels.
Planting Basics
- Choose a container.
- Start with quality soil. Sow seeds in a sterile, seed-starting mix or potting soil available in nurseries and garden centers.
- Plant at the proper depth.
- Water wisely.
- Maintain consistent moisture.
- Keep soil warm.
- Fertilize.
- Give seedlings enough light.
Environmental Conditions
- Know your plants- before planting a garden or adding a plant to your potted collection, ask an expert at a nursery questions about what conditions the plants need. Figure out in what region the plants do best. For indoor plants, maintain a fairly steady temperature. If you're cold, your plant is cold, too. Avoid putting your green friends in drafty places. If you think it's chilly, so do they.
- The container or pot you are using has to be big enough- plants need room to grow. Check the roots once per year to see if they look crowded. If they do, then break them up and repot your plant in a larger pot. This will ensure new growth. You can also trim the roots and then repot the plant.
- Provide the right amount of sunlight-plants generally need either full sunlight, partial sunlight, or partial shade. This relatively simple distinction has a big impact on how well plants do.
- Water and feed well.
- Use tricks- check the plants often, bury banana peels under rosebushes, use crushed eggshells to feed plants, keep pests away with soap, and use coins to keep slugs out.
